Barreled Over

I just want to start off by thanking everyone who entered my giveaway! I'll post the winner shortly. We got back in town from our Louisiana vacation late last night- we had a great time visiting family and friends as always.

Speaking of Louisiana; I wanted to talk a little more about the barrel I found last time we were in New Orleans

I bought it on a whim- it was so cool and it was cheap!

The shop owner said it is Pre-Civil War based on the square nails and wood rims (instead of some type of metal) holding it together. There's no way to prove it though; hence the price.

We didn't have any way to bring it home since our car was loaded down with kids, suitcases, and our pup Gracie. I left it at my MIL's house and she is going to bring it to us in Oklahoma when she comes for Thanksgiving at the end of the month.

In the meantime I've been thinking of where I'm going to put it and what to do with it.

Our formal living room seems like a good fit.

I'm either thinking of replacing the corner table with the barrel. I've been wanting a fiddle fig tree for a while. I like the architectural look of them and the fact that they bring a natural element to a room.

So I could do something like this:

  +   = Coolness

Or I thought about using it as a side table next to the couch. I'd love to find or buy a round marble top for the barrel.

  +    = More Coolness

2 Potential issues with these plans.

1. Fiddle Fig Trees are known to be hard to care for and I'm sometimes a accidental plant killer to begin with. So I'd probably get a fake one. Online they seem a little pricey.

2. Round White Marble table tops in the exact size I need are probably hard to come by. So I'd have to have one cut which equals more pricey-ness.

Either way I can't wait for my barrel to get here!!!

Have you ever bought something that you weren't able to haul home?
