DIY Candles Holder out of Chair Legs

Hello All! Today I have a fun DIY for you that costs next to nothing to make. I found an old chair in the garbage (no picture :/) and picked it up for my friend who is a photographer. She had been looking for a chair that she could saw the legs off of, paint a fun color and use as a prop in her photos like so:

Since I cut the legs off the chair for her I was left with a bunch of spindles.

So the question was what to do with them? DIY candle holders anyone?

I will say this is not a new idea; you may have seen it done here and here.

To get started I needed to fill in the holes left from the leg supports. To do this I used wood filler.

After the wood filler dried I sanded it down smooth and sanded the paint finish off the legs.

Then to add interest I cut the spindles to varying heights:

Now my spindles each needed a base. To keep it simple I cut down some old pallet wood I had-

And remember these guys? My marble trophy bases leftover from my wine stopper project? I thought it would be fun to use one of these guys as well.

To attach the spindles to the base simply screw from underneath your base into the spindle. Since my spindles are slender I predrilled as to not split the wood.

Once they were attached I used a 3/4" spade drill bit to drill a hole for where the candle will go.

Finally it was time to paint! I used some Pantone paint I had a sample of in Celestial and some leftover silver paint from a project long ago. And voila my discarded chair spindles have become this!

To make them feel Christmas-y I put them in the center of the Christmas wreath I made new for this year.

What fun trash to treasure have you bee fixing up lately?
