Orange You Glad I'm Finished?

I sure am! I can't believe that I haven't shared this with you yet. I finally finished upholstering my orange chair!

Remember these guys? These orange chairs I've been carting around since we lived in San Antonio?

You may remember that I took an upholstery class here in Altus in order to learn how to recover these bad boys.

The upholstery class was 8 weeks long and during that time I was becoming more and more pregnant. By the end of the class I was about 8 months along. Pregnant upholstery in 100 degree weather was not the most fun I've had but I'm glad I did it but I'm also glad it's over with!

I ripped apart, updated the arms, sustained injuries, sewed more than I've ever sewn in my life but I finally finished! I just forgot to share it with you because Sawyer showed up and it completely slipped my mind.

Now all finished and sitting happily in our living room!

The fabric is a light color but I had a Teflon finish put on it so it's easy to clean In fact during the upholster process I bled on it and my teacher (bless his heart) sweat all over it (ew!) and all marks and stains wiped completely clean! So it's beed easy to care for with 3 yr old Con-Man running around.

The only issue I have now is that I have one beige chair and one orange chair. Oops...

I originally took the upholstery class so I could fix up one chair then upholster the second one on my own. Little did I know is that not only did I choose chairs that are incredibly hard to reupholster (mostly sewing, not a lot of stapling) but the fabric I bought is hard to work with. It's a leather look vinyl so it's thick and stretchy.

I'm still debating whether to take the upholstery class a second time to work in the other chair or let the pros handle it this time. We'll see.

  5. Wow! that is an awesome transformation. I'd go for a print on the other one just to give it a bit of pop and fun.
I have a couple of couches that I have never like the fabric on - but I do not really like the shape, so it would be a major redoing to tackle the project.

  7. Wow, you did a great job! I would have thought that from the square look of the chair that it would have been easier than others, but I guess not. :) Thank you so much for sharing this at Rustic Restorations Weekend!
