Sawyer's 10 Month Photo

Sawyer is 10 months old! He has finally gotten his first tooth (though lack of teeth hasn't stopped him from chowing down on solid food). And even though he isn't officially crawling, he scoots, wriggles, and drags himself around in his own way and always seems to find mischief.

And just like last month he will not sit still for his photo.

Frog Tape Earn Your Stripes Contest

Remember Con Man's Big Boy Room? Well I've decided to enter it into the Frog Tape Earn Your Stripes Contest.

Before I entered I did a quick update to his toy chest. I've been meaning to do it for a while but had been putting it off. I added an orange stripe to correspond with the stripe on his wall- just to add a bit of interest. I used Frog Tape to block off the space I wanted to paint and was done!

Before

After

Simple yet effective!

If you want to enter the contest as well just go to the Frog Tape Promotion Page and check it out. There is a chance to win $5000! There are categories for each room; I entered Con Man's into the baby and kid category. The grand prize is $5000 but there are $100 prizes for Best in Each Category. And just for entering you get a Frog Tape gift pack. Score!! Entering was easy. All you need is a before, during, and after picture of you using Frog Tape.

Good luck!!

DIY Upholstered Headboard

Happy Belated Mothers Day to all Moms, soon to be Moms, Grandmothers, and Moms to four legged friends! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I celebrated by going on a date with the hubs Saturday night then spending family time Sunday hiking and grilling. We thankfully had nice weather all weekend.

And- is anyone else reeling from the season finale of Revenge? OMG!!! Declan dead? What was he doing in that building anyway? Nolan framed? Padima alive!? Aiden maybe dead? Emily finally tells Jack the truth! (And does he feel dumb for not realizing it earlier or what) I'm dying for next season already.

Anyway- I also spent some time finishing up the upholstered headboard for our bedroom!

Brass is Bad Ass(phalt)

Have you noticed it? The brass that has been creeping it's way back into decor? It's not the shiny brass of years past- but a honed, aged more sophisticated brass. It's popping up on hardware, furniture, and accessories.

It goes with anything like most metallic do. Unlike silver or chrome it's not cold feeling. And it's not overdone like gold.

I personally am jumping on this band wagon. No I'm not replacing every or spray painting every metallic accessory in my house. But I am making it an accent in our bedroom. As you can see on my $10 thrift store pendant light:

This antique solid brass fire hose nozzle. It was my grandfathers, he used to collect them from the refinery where he worked. When the fire trucks at the refinery were finished with the nozzles they used to throw them away; he would save them and had a bunch! Some were brass like this one others were solid nickel. I love having this piece of family history in our home.

And the brass accents on my TV Console:

I am adding brass accents on our new unholstered headboard, but it's the kind of shiny fake brass I'm not a fan of:

I'm going to fix that shiny-ness and will be sharing with you soon!

Are you on the brass bandwagon? Or are you going to let it pass by?

It's Rug Time! (And another reason my husband thinks I'm nuts)

It's Rug Time, la la la, It's Rug Time! (Anyone else's kid watch Sid The Science Kid?) That song has been in my head for the past few days.

Anyway- It's been rug time over at our house. I've been searching for a rug for a good while now. I even ordered one on Ebay then returned it after the colors in person were way different than the online colors... I swore afterwards that I would not order another rug based solely on online photos. Until I saw this one that is:

Some more IIDA Fashion Show Inspiration!

One of my teammates had taken pictures of the other entries in the IIDA Fashion Show. We were not allowed to take pictures during the actual event and I've been waiting for them to be posted on the IIDA website but they are taking forever! As I said before each team was randomly paired with a product manufacturer and had to make a couture fashion item using those products and keep with a certain color scheme. All money raised goes to scholarships!

So here are the behind the scene shots of the other gals in the show:

Putting Blog Skills to Work

Some of us blog because we love it, some of us blog to make money. I never really felt comfortable putting ad space on my blog for one reason or another. Though sometimes I thought it would be nice to get a little compensation for the work I put into keeping this baby afloat. So when an opportunity came up to write for another website I threw my hat in the ring and as luck would have it I got the job!

Adorable Home is a design website that offers daily eye candy for homes, apartments, product design, commercial architecture, kids spaces, kitchens, you name it! Can you tell which articles are mine??

I'm excited to be a part of it though it is part of the reason my personal blog posts have been on the light side lately. Hopefully as I get better at juggling both that will change.

If you've ever thought about trying your hand at blogging for other websites go for it! There are opportunities to be had with some research and hard work. Writing for a blog that is focused on your interests is a good place to start. Some advertise the need for freelance writers but even if they don't it doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck!
