A Shout Out To White Rooms

I was looking through my Pinterest (Follow Me!) pics and I noticed something, I have a lot of white rooms on my boards. I was drawn to the rooms for one reason or another but one thing was the same- white. It really is a beautiful look- so pristine, clean and bright. I'd love to have a home that looked like these rooms.......but....

........But is it really practical? Who are the people who live like this?

I can't imagine having all white furniture, walls, and floors with a 2 year old and a big black lab in real life. (Both of who love to make messes in their own ways.) Do the people who live here have kids? If they do have kids are the children allowed in these rooms? Or is it a couple, or single person?

I've heard people say that a white slipcovered couch is easy to take care of, just wash it or bleach it and your good to go. But do I really want to be washing my couch slipcover all the time? (Maybe I'm lazy?) Our current couch is chocolate brown microfiber- just try staining that sucker.

Any one out there in blog land have a white room? What's your secret to keeping it clean? How this is accomplished?

I love the look but how to make it work? Am I stuck with my big brown couch till my kids move off to college?

I have the white slipcovered couch and it is always dirty thanks to 4 kids and 2 dogs. Ppl told me that they also had kids and dogs and they love their white couches. I don't. I hate washing it every two weeks, I"m afraid it's going to fall apart. I am going to buy a gray slipcover for the thing. Sorry I'm not much help. I love white too but it's just not practical and I can't imagine white walls, shuddering at the thought of all the handprints, spaghetti and dirt I would see! Now I'm sounding like debbie downer, time to go to bed! Have a great night.

I have a white couch and love it. it's easier to keep clean than imagined but we don't have pets and just two kids so easier than some households. Also had a dark blue coach but harder to keep clean and there are spots all over that would be hidden if the coach were white.

"just try staining that sucker" boy, did I have a good laugh at that one :) Well, we have a golden retriever and I can only imagine the damage a BLACK lab could do! I don't think that families live in these places, but they sure are nice to look at. (Thanks for stopping by).

our new sofa is "ivory" and i'm so paranoid about it getting ruined! i keep it covered with a big sheet unless we have company. and no more dinners in front of the tv unless you sit on the ground! we dont have any kids or dogs though so it's probably a lot easier to control what comes near the couch.

Oh how I enjoy LOOKING at those white rooms too..... I do have a white, slipcovered sofa.... nobody sits on it. :-) And, a few other white things, but it's still pretty colorful around here. I always wonder about those rooms too.

Have a great weekend!

Warm blessings,
Spencer

I have six sofas in my house and four of them are white and I love them. I don't have a dog anymore, but I love the ability to clean my furniture myself and not pay a professional. My friend at WhiteWhimsy.blogspot.com has a white living room with two kids, a dog and two cats and it is lovely. Some of my furniture may be visible on my blog highpointcircle.blogspot.com, but I haven't done a home tour yet.

You have found some gorgeous pins here. I too love white rooms but I have an 11 year old son...I don't think I need to say much more ;)

I have just posted about my favourite pins at my weekly Pinning & Singing Pinterest link up. Please pop by if you have 5 minutes to spare-I would be so thrilled if you could link up to my party!

Best wishes,

I agree with you that the white is beautiful to look at, but most people with families would have trouble with it. It's like having a lot of knick knacks (major dust-catchers) in a dusty climate. How much do you want to dust? It all depends on priorities. I do have a white tile bathroom that is slightly larger than the size of a shower stall--well, it is a shower stall, so it gets washed regularly and stays white!

I love white rooms too, which is why I love the STYLIZIMO blog! She's the one who did the first picture on your post. I was just reading her post on her new home office and I don't know how she does it but she outdid herself AGAIN! And I thought the old office was nice, but this is brilliant!
