Here's Looking at You Spring

I don't know what the weather is like where you live but it's been pretty nasty here in Oklahoma. Yesterday it snowed, today (Sunday) it's crazy windy, and there is supposed to be a blizzard tonight!!

It's almost March- it's not supposed to be blizzarding right now. I am over winter; over it! I'm ready for warm springs days and sunshine. It also doesn't help that my Louisiana friends are posting pictures of crawfish boils all over Facebook. 

Maybe if I put myself in a warm springtime state of mind the Oklahoma weather will follow. Looking at bright colored interiors and decor should do the trick. Here's hoping!

Exclusive Candice Olsen Paint Colors from Benjamin Moore

I'm not going to deny it; when I'm looking for paint colors I usually head to Sherwin Williams first. Their paints are high quality, they have great colors and a good Green Story. But when I heard Benjamin Moore had teamed up with Candice Olsen to create an exclusive fan deck; I had to check it out.

You know Candice Olsen right? The awesome Interior Designer from HGTV shows such as "Divine Design" and "Candice Tells All". Love her!

Her designs are classic, fresh, timeless and modern all at the same time. Her rooms are ones that can stand the test of time without becoming dated or boring. 

The same can be said for her new paint collection.

Candice choose her favorite go to colors from the Benjamin Moore line and combined it into one fan deck that they say resulted "in a sophisticated, nature-inspired collection of timeless, unique color combinations for any room in your home".

The collection features 60 different colors, arranged by family, ranging from neutral to bold 

accent hues.

White: Working With It

I know I've blogged about this before; how I like the color white in the home but am not sure how well it would work out in my own personal home. 


There is something about it that I like though- I guess that's why I keep coming back to it. The crispness, how clean it looks, how everything else pops off of it. And the cool thing about it is that you can go with any interior style with an all white room- go super modern, go for a cottage look, minimalist, ect.

If your thinking of going with white in a space here are some things to think about:

You either go all white or go home. The look your going for won't have the same impact if you only use white sparingly. You need to do the walls, ceiling, trim everything!

White walls are great for showcasing an art collection, or if you have another bold color you want to use in the room. White walls will make your artwork or accent color pop better than any other color.

White rooms aren't neccessarily cozy but they can be calming. Since they are usually minimally decorated there is something serene about them. So if your going for a calm feel fight the urge to over accessorize.

Nothing looks nicer than natural wood and bright white. I love this combo! There's something organic and earthy about it.

So, debate in my head goes something like this-

Should I paint a room white in our home to see how I like it? Would it even have the same impact as these rooms do? We are in a rental home so it's not like we can change the carpet or flooring...

Am I even sophisticated enough to handle a white room? Can I pull it off?

In any case I probably won't be busting out the Benjamin Moore Super White any time soon. With another baby on the way there's a lot of other things to think about- like finishing his nursery and planning Con-Man's birthday party.

Hello Indigo!

With the seasons changing, fall being in the air- It's put me in the mood to shake things up around the house. Our living room in particular. If you caught the New House Tour you saw some of these pics:

Credenza refinished- Check! Everything else..... not so much. This is partly because I've been busy doing other things and partly because I wasn't sure what direction to take this room in. In our old house green was the scheme. We've had the same green curtains, green pillows, greenish rug for about 5 years. I've since moved all the green accessories to other rooms- new house new color scheme.

To decided on how to proceed with this room I thought a lot about what colors I really like. Green is one of course, but I've always loved blue. It's been my favorite color for about forever. So why not incorporate it into the room I spend the most time in? 

Clicking around on Pinterest gave me a lot of ideas- but what I was really drawn to was deep blue; Indigo.

Either way I decide to go it needs to get done quick. My walls and windows are lonely and the floor is bare. We've been in our new house over 3 months and it's about time I stop neglecting this poor room!

How do you decide on color schemes/ direction for the rooms in your home? When decorating a room do you try to do it all at once or let the room grow in style over time?

I was looking through a paint fan deck the other day and got to thinking- Seriously, who names these colors? Are they really trying in envoke some sort of emotional connection between you and the paint color? Or are they just names pulled out of the air randomly strung together.
I got to thinking more about it and did a little research online. It turns out I'm not the only one who wonders about this. I found some posts on this topic on Yahoo! Answers, most of the responses were jokes along the lines of "the Paint Color Namers all get together for a party, drink, then throw out names to their boss. Whoever has the craziest wins."
