Getting A Handle On It

Sorry for the lack of posting after Labor Day Weekend- things have been busy around here as of late! Just a quick DIY for you today. Do you remember back when I mentioned our old house was the gift that kept on giving? Well it's still giving two years later and we don't even live there anymore!

I had saved several old door knobs from our 1930's house and brought them with us when we moved. I already used most of them but still had the glass one left to make something out of.

For the glass knob I made this:

Pretty simple but I like the contrast of the glass and the old salvaged wood. The wood is left over from my Pallet Texas, the knob and key hole from our old home.

I just cut some wood down to size, sanded, screwed the key hole on, then predrilled a hole to screw my door knob into.

(Only picture I had depicting screw in a door knob)

Simple and effective! Have you created anything for free lately?

Make a Statement...

Bracelet!

One thing that having a newborn has done is made me focus on smaller projects that I have been putting off for a long time. I have all these ideas in my head but don't always get to them.

This is one project I can cross off that list.

A friend of mine gave me a few small decorative tiles a long time ago- knowing that I like things like that. I hadn't done much with them until now. My favorite one is a Fleur De Lis one (I love Fleur De Lis- they remind me of home in Louisiana!). I thought it would be cool to make a piece of jewelry out of it.

I've dabbled in jewelry making before but this is my favorite piece so far!

To make the tile a little more decorative I decided to add some glass beads around the edges to finish it off. I used Gorilla Super Glue and some glass beads I bought at the craft store.

Then just glued them all around the edge of the tile.

To make the leather wrap I simply cut out a piece of leather to the size and shape I needed. Once the beading around the tile was done and dry I needed to adhere the tile to my leather bracelet. I used snaps and Gorilla Glue Epoxy for this task.

I used the Epoxy to glue one part of the snap onto the tile.

Then connected the snap into the leather band.

After snapping my tile onto the band I treaded a piece of suede ribbon through the leather to use to tie the wrap down.

Then it was done!

I used the suede ribbon to tie the bracelet off.

What things have you been crossing off your list lately?

Video Tutorial

A lot of people commented on my wine bottle pendant lights that they are worried about cutting glass with the Dremel Tool. I totally understand, I was somewhat intimidated as well. But after doing some research online I found out that I was not the only one who was curious about the subject.

Here is a video I found that shows how to do it, what precautions to take, and what bits to use.

Here is another article about using the Dremel to cut glass.

Hope this is helpful, and remember to always keep safety first. If your not comfortable doing something it's ok to ask for help!

I also want to send a huge Thank You to Rachel at One Pretty Thing and Cassity at Remodelaholic for featuring my wine bottle pendant lights and technique to make your own T-Shirt. Thank you!!

Happy Creating!
