Vintage Window Picture Frame

I was going to title this post:

"Lets see how many holes I can punch into the wall of my rental home."

But decided that was to long. (Just kidding Landlord I'm going to patch any and all these holes!) I had just hung our family photo wall not to long ago and I'm already changing it up.

Remember last week I shared this photo of the scrap wood I found?

Gallery Wall- Fini!

I hope everyone had a fantastic spring weekend!

We had some great weather here in Oklahoma  so we tried to spend as much time outside as possible. And we went to see the Hunger Games!! I didn't make it to the wood shop like I had hoped (they were closed for Spring Break!) but I did finally get our family gallery wall together.

I feel like I've been talking about it and working on it forever. I needed to fill this blank wall in our living room.

So slowly but surely I collected frames from our local thrift stores and then painted them all white.

I also decided to add some other personal touches. Like this Letter F to represent our last name; Falcon.

And a Fleur De Lis I found at Hobby Lobby to show our Louisiana heritage.

I also added some of Con-Man's artwork that I can change out every once in a while. He gets a kick of seeing things he made hung on the wall.

Once I gathered everything together I set about laying out my frames. There are some great tutorials out there on how to lay out and hang your frames, but I just winged it in the end. (I'm lazy what can I say?) I measured my wall width and height. Then figured that I would leave about a foot of space on either end and center the middle photos at eye level.

Then laid of my frames on the floor beneath my barren wall.

Then I began to hang them starting from the center most frames and worked my way out.

I will have to say this is not a fool proof method- I had to rehang a few pictures higher or lower. So I ended up with a few extra nail heads but it didn't take long- my kind of project! I think it turned out pretty good. I love having our family photos displayed.

If your itching to try a gallery wall of your own but don't want to wing it like I did here are some great tutorials on how to go about it:

Happy Hanging!

Photo Wall Inspiration & Tips

While planning Con-Man's room it's gotten me a little nostalgic for times past. I was scrolling through old photos of the fam and I realized we don't have a lot of them around the house. Blame it on digital photography and my laziness. So, everywhere around blog land I've seen some awesome photo walls.

We have this blank barren wall in our living room that is just screaming for a photo treatment:

We have lots of family photos we've taken over the years, and will no doubt have some more when Tiny Falcon #2 shows up. So I was happy to receive an email from Crate and Barrel a few weeks ago giving some tips on planning a photo wall.

From Crate & Barrel Mailer:

1. Choose a large wall with plenty of room to display your photos.

2. Decide on a theme for framing your photos. Choose from wood, metal, acrylic frames; or mix it up!

3. Use a mix of media. Start with family photos then add drawings, paintings, clocks, or other pieces you love.

4. Spread everything out on the floor. Move pieces around to see which look best next to each other.

5. Use a level to ensure all pictures are straight. Use two nails for larger pictures. (Use my tip for hanging pictures!)

6. And most important have fun!

Thanks Crate & Barrel- I've never bought anything from you but your email has lit a fire under my boo-tay and I'm ready to start planning my photo wall!

Have you done a photo wall? Any advice on how to get started or plan it?
