A Halloween Quickie

I know I said I'd be light on projects but I can't help myself. I'd rather be painting and making a mess in the garage than packing. I can't stand packing! Especially since now I have to pack for not only myself but for the 2 boys, our dog and cat (and occasionally the Hubs but don't tell him I told you that.)

Anyway- Happy Halloween!! I thought I could take down my Fall Wreath for one night to celebrate the evening. I saw this idea on Curbly and knew I had everything on hand to make it. 

Quick Craft & Some Halloween Fun

I saw this garland project on Curbly and thought it was really cute. Extra bonus it's super easy to make! So even though today is Halloween I went a head and made it. 

I tried to use Fall colored candy so I can leave it up for Thanksgiving. All you need is some colored candy of your choice and a stapler! Solid colors work best, you could even make this for any holiday- Christmas, Valentines, ect.  

To make the garland just use your stapler to staple the pieces end to end. Try to get as much of the wrapping stapled as possible so it won't unravel. 

And that's it! Just staple away until you have the desired length, then hang. For and estimate on how much you need- 30 pieces = about 5'.

Also this weekend we participated in the Altus Air Force Base Trunk or Treat. We decorated my car like a monster (The Murano Monster) and handed out candy to the kids on base.

ROAR!!! Scary stuff!

The whole family dressed up for the occasion. The Hubs was a nerd and I dressed up as the lady from "The Birds".

Another Pallet Sign: Happy Halloween

I had such a good time fooling around with the Silhouette the other day that I wanted to play with it some more this week. I had some pallet wood leftover from the last pallet project and went about painting it up.

I knew I wanted candy corns as embellishment. I totally lucked out that the day I went to look Silhouette download of the day was candy corn! I know there not that expensive to download but I still like getting the free ones when I can!

This was a fun little (free!) project to get us further into the Halloween Spirit!

Makin It: Halloween Costume

Halloween is fast approaching and I have yet to make Con-Man's Halloween Costume. I'm such a slacker! Last year I was inspired by Pottery Barns animal costumes:

I sewed my own version of this for the Con-Man. He refused to wear the ears I made for him though. :/

The year before that I made him a pumpkin costume:

Part of the reason for my sluggishness on getting started is that I wasn't sure what he should be. I was completely stumped. I mentioned this to the Hubs and he of course had the perfect solution- Mater! Of course! Why hadn't I thought of this? Con-Man loves the movie Cars and loves Mater.

I did some searching for a Mater costume and came up with this one at Walmart:

Problem: It doesn't come in toddler sizes. Lame! So I'm going to try and make one. Hopefully it comes out alright. I like making Con-Man's costumes, it's fun and my mom made most of our when we were younger. I'm going to try and get away with it for as long as I can; until he starts begging for the ones in the store. ;)

And while I'm at it I might "Put a Bird On It" and make a costume for myself. "The Birds" anyone?

A Costume for Con-Man

Halloween is here! I couldn't be more excited about dressing up little Con-Man in a Halloween Costume. I had a hard time deciding what he could be. He's a little young to be into characters on TV so I did a little searching. I loved the costumes the Pottery Barn Kids had this year.

My favorite one is the Dalmatian!! So cute!

As usual though I wasn't loving the price. It seemed like a simple enough design and I thought I could tackle it myself. I bought some black and white fleece at the fabric store, 1/2 yard of each, and some white yarn for the stitching around the spots. 

Since I didn't have a pattern to go by I traced some of his clothes to get an approximate size. I added an inch around the whole shirt to leave room for the hem. I made 2 of these pieces.

For the bottom I added about 8" to add some extra length.

I did this because the Pottery Barn costume was fluffy and fat at the bottom. After I cut out both pieces I sewed them together leaving the bottom open. I them folded the bottom in on itself and stuffed it pillow stuffing to get the fluffy look, then sewed it closed.

To make the spots I just traced a few different size cups, cut them out and used fusible webbing to iron them on.

To finish it off I hand stitched the white yard around the spots and added a red collar. Overall pretty simple and a lot less expensive than the one in the store and way cute.

I had made some ears for him as well but he absolutely refused to wear them longer than 2 seconds.
